Why Live in Star, ID?

The city of Star is considered to be one of the earliest settlements in the Boise Valley. It started its history in 1863 when Ben F. Swalley, one of the first settlers, drove its oxen and wagon along the 300 acres of land along the Boise River which is now one mile south of the present town’s center. Others followed its trail not long after which turned it into a location for travelers to stop and rest between Boise city and Boise Basin mines.

In 1870, the first schoolhouse that was built in Star was its first location in the village. It is about halfway between the Star-Emmett junction and Star’s present location - about a mile to the east. After the construction, one of the settlers nailed a sawed out star on the front door making it a mark to let others know it was a place for travelers to stay the night. From that then on, the city was called Star.

Star has preserved its small-town feel while having a growing population. The thoughtfulness and sense of community the early settlers created has prevailed and the current residents are as friendly as ever.

The city is within 5-15 miles of Eagle, Boise and Meridian which makes it very accessible for work or leisure activities such as shopping, dining or the many outdoor activities Idaho has to offer. The city’s crime is low, which allows residents to feel safe within their community. As Star’s population increases yearly, homes are quickly being sold or rented. Star has even been dubbed as the “Next Eagle” when it comes to cities in the Treasure Valley.
