Meridian has just celebrated its 125th anniversary last August 18th since its founding. Its history started around the 1880s where settlers came in waves from different states including Nebraska, Arkansa, Missouri and North Dakota despite the lack of irrigation in the area. They called the settlement as Hunter, which was named after the local railroad superintendent. As more settlers came in, irrigation has become a necessity in the area.
It was in August 18, 1893 when Meridian was finally named when Eliza Zenger’s husband, Christian, filed the town plat with county officials in the very property owned by Eliza. It is also where downtown Meridian is standing strong today.
Since its beginning, Meridian has gradually flourished and improves daily. A lot of investors and new residents have witnessed how this beautiful city became a great place like it is today.
